| Macao establishes committee to boost MICE development |
The government of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) has decided to set up a committee to promote the development of local MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) sector, the Macao Post Daily reported on Tuesday.
The establishment of the Conventions and Exhibitions Development Committee was announced as an executive order signed by the SAR Chief Executive Chui Sai On was published on the Official Gazette Monday.
The committee's main task is to coordinate cooperation among the government, MICE industry, and other sectors of local society, with the aim of ensuring local MICE industry's sound and sustainable development, the daily quoted a government statement concerning the executive order as saying.
The SAR's Secretary for Finance and Economy Tam Pak Yuen will chair the committee, the 19 members of which come from local private and public sectors.
For the whole of 2009, a total of 1,485 MICE events were held in Macao, with an average duration of two days, attracting 660,881 participants and attendees, according to the figures from the SAR' s Statistics and Census Bureau. |
