| Urbanization policies to help boost domestic demands |
The annual government work report delivered at the Third Session of the 11th National People's Congress by Premier Wen Jiabao has proposed new strategies and thoughts about promoting urbanization, which will trigger the explosive expansion of domestic demands and help the transformation of economic development models, the Securities Times reported.
The newspaper said the government report included new policies of promoting urbanization in four respects, citing Gu Shengzu, vice chairman of the Central Committee of China National Democratic Construction Association, also a member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
First, the government aims to promote the development of towns. The report said the government will "strengthen county economies, improve infrastructure and environmental protection in county towns".
Second, the government will help migrant workers who meet the requirements to become urban residents. The report said the government will "carry out the reform of the household registration system and relax requirements for household registration in towns and small and medium-sized cities."
Third, the government plans to allow eligible rural migrant workers to get equal treatment as urban residents by reforming the relevant policies.
Fourth, the government will encourage returned rural migrant workers to start businesses in their hometowns.
New policies of promoting urbanization are the highlight of this year's government report, Gu said. Urbanization, especially promoting the development of small and medium-sized cities, is an important way to expand domestic demands, he said. |
