Macao records 2,529 new incorporations in 2009

The number of new corporations in Macao reached 2,529 last year, dropping by 7.6 percent over the previous year, according to the figures released on Monday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

The value of the new corporations' registered capital decreased by 17.6 percent year-on-year to 340 million patacas (42. 5 million U.S. dollars), and the majority of the new companies were operating in Wholesale and retail (955), Business services (440) and Construction (317), the DSEC figures indicated.

Regarding the capital of the new companies, capital from Macao totaled 166 million patacas (20.75 million dollars), while those from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong amounted to 60 million patacas (7.5 million dollars) and 42 million patacas (5.25 million dollars) respectively.

Aside from new incorporations, there were 469 companies in Macao in dissolution last year, with the value of capital amounting to 1.99 billion patacas (249 million dollars), up by 4.9 percent and 2.8 times respectively over 2008, in which the value of registered capital of real estate companies in dissolution accounted for 1.91 billion patacas (239 million dollars), the DSEC said.
